Girl with a Pearl Earring
Griet is a 17-year-old maid in the house of Johannes Vermeer. She had left her home to provide for her family and works as a maid for Mr. Vermeer. Greit is the archetype of “The Orphan.” In this story, she is that of an orphan because she is on her own in a home where she is second class, if not bottom class. She is a maid but does not take “crap” from the adolescent females of the home. She learns how to survive by being honest and gaining the trust of Mr. Vermeer.
